چکیده

We consider the bandwidth optimization problem in a Generalized Processor Sharing (GPS) server to minimize the total bandwidth such that QoS requirements for each class queue are satisfied. Our previous optimization algorithm [6] requires rather long optimization time to solve the problem. We propose a new optimization algorithm based on weight vector adjustment. Numerical results show that the required time to find the optimal resource in GPS servers is significantly reduced, compared to the previous algorithm. key words: Internet traffic, QoS, GPS, bandwidth allocation, optimization

Frame-based Fair Queueing: a New Traac Scheduling Algorithm for Packet-switched Networks

abstract In this paper we introduce and analyze frame-based fair queueing, a novel traac scheduling algorithm for packet-switched networks. The algorithm provides end-to-end delay bounds identical to those of PGPS (packet-level generalized processor sharing), without the complexity of simulating the uid-model system in the background as required in PGPS. The algorithm is therefore ideally suite...

An Online Optimization-based Technique For Dynamic Resource Allocation in GPS Servers

Since web workloads are known to vary dynamically with time, in this paper, we argue that dynamic resource allocation techniques are necessary in the presence of such workloads to provide guarantees to web applications running on shared data centers. To address this issue, we present an analytic model of a server resource that services multiple applications using generalized processor sharing (...

The effective bandwidth of Markov modulated fluid process sources with a generalized processor sharing server

Generalized Processor Sharing (GPS) is an important scheduling discipline because it enables bandwidth sharing with work conservation and traffic isolation properties. While Markov Modulated Fluid Processes (MMFP) capture the dynamics of the sources, the analysis of such sources with a GPS server is difficult because of the large state space. In this paper, we study a multi-queue GPS system wit...
